Visiting an art exhibition or
museum.
Reading for pleasure.
Sewing or handicrafts.
Watching a good movie.
Scrapbooking.
Quilting.
Playing board games or their
computer equivalents. And yes, enjoying the
latest game consoles (borrow your kid's some
time and have a go).
Dancing.
Exercise.
Getting out into the
countryside, to the beach, or by the lake.
Any hobby that involves
counting, cataloguing or sorting - to the
unconscious mind, this can be a metaphor for
putting things in order. For example, if you do
cross stitch you start by sorting wool. If you
collect stamps you sort and catalogue the
material you get.
This is why some people start
sorting out their drawers or cupboards when
stressed - it isn't the compulsive cleaning but
the sorting that matters. So a little
decluttering can actually be destressing!
People who did trainspotting or
plane spotting used to be the butt of jokes.
Today an "anorak" means a geek, and if you hang
around at a railway station or airport long
enough acting suspiciously, the police will
probably want a word with you. Bird watching is
still tolerated, if you don't mind being called
a twitcher.
If you can't find the time to do
any of the above, or don't have the motivation
to do any, then over-the-counter bought
solutions such as self-hypnosis recordings,
e-books and so on probably won't help. You
won't use them properly or you'll forget about
them. You might have a whole collection of them
already and still be the same.
So what then?
Get a coach - someone who can
help you discover what the blocks are, and help
you CHANGE. And loosen up.
What are you waiting for?
